Kalpa (meaning Desire) and Malay (meaning Mountain) were poles apart when they met. They just happened to become friends.
Malay was searching for something that would make sense in his life, while Kalpa was trying to make sense of molecular genetics and bacteria.
After a year of long walks, dinner hogging and small outings with friends, he finally asked her out and she agreed.
They dated for 6 months and it was evident that the friendship was strong and the love was blossoming.
They asked for permissions from their parents to be engaged and parents happily agreed. Still something was missing
Ah yes, the proposal…..Which came in 2 parts.
Part I – @ Mt Bonnell – he went down on his knee with a ring at 8 o clock on a chilly winter night, where she did say yes J
Part II – @ Long Centre (her favorite spot in Austin) – where he recited the poem he had written for her.
The answer was an evident “YES” and they got engaged in a ceremony in India in December 2011.
She graduated with a Ph D from UT Austin and that was the sign for them to take the plunge into matrimony!!
The end of the poem just fits perfectly with their story
Ah! such is the love of a woman
Filled with beauty and ecstasy,
Makes me think that more than luck
She had to be in my destiny!!!!
