A Non-Engagement Engagement Session

Jason and I met at a party for mutual friends on a sub-zero night in Chicago. He came over to join a group conversation I was in and I literally bumped another lady out of the way to talk to him. Nearly two years later, we moved in together and decided that we wanted to see as much of the world as we could together. Since I already had a mobile job as a freelance journalist, Jason switched to a freelance iPhone app development gig so we could work from anywhere. We put (almost) all of our things into storage, packed up our dog and became permanent travelers, moving to a different city or country every few months.

That was nearly three years ago. Since becoming “digital nomads,” we’ve taken a bomb defusing class in Austin, attended a prison rodeo in Louisiana, seen a shuttle launch in Cape Canaveral, fed kangaroos in Australia, ate as much glorious French food as we could shove in our faces in Montreal and filmed a pilot for The Travel Channel in Toronto. We’ve also eaten the best and worst everywhere we’ve been, lived in apartments that range from penthouse quality to “holy hell, there’s human hair in the walls” and learned a lot about how to work together better as a team. Through good and bad, it has been an adventure.

We’re not engaged, but we wanted some romancey photos that could showcase one of our favorite destinations. We’re big fans of a good dive bar, so we were pumped that John photographed us at Cheer Up Charlies. We’re planning a move to Brooklyn for a few months after spending some time in Louisville, Kentucky and Richmond, Virginia, but we’re grateful to have these photos as a way to remember everything we love about Texas. We’re not sure where we’re going to wind up in the end, but we hope it’s as wonderful as here.
